Independence
Day. Hoorah!
The
day today is not only a remembrance of how bad-ass Filipinos from way
back used to fight to the death for the freedom of the Filipino
nation but also a spark that ignites the boss in us to be independent
of the things that are somehow negative and are holding us back to be
the best that we can be.
To
make it more clear, I should give petty yet practical examples.
I
should be independent of the weird, clichéd
notion that good girls always fall for the bad boys. I mean seriously
what is up with that? I'm not saying that these boys should not be
given a chance. It's just that maybe sometimes I'm thinking we should
hold back a little and give us girls the pride and respect we
deserve. Yes they are more cuter with the attitude but let's remember
ladies that there are boundaries to it. A book should not be judged
by its cover but it is only as good as its contents. Plus, the song
Nice Guys by Chester See applies to girls as well.
Second
bullet. I should be independent taking my alarm clock for granted
just because there is a snooze button. It's got me thinking that
perhaps the reason why I stress sometimes over schoolwork and stuff
is because of my poor time management and love for sleeping. So
indeed I must change that.
Lastly,
I must make it a point to be independent of the way I lust over sushi
and Starbucks because the truth is- I don't have the luxury of buying
them always. And too much of something is definitely bad. I should
learn how to make them instead. Now that could be more helpful.
So
there you go. I thank the heroes of yesterday for setting the lines
for us to follow. The things written above maybe a plagiarized copy
of my new year's resolution but what the heck, atleast Independence
day sets another room for me to grow, learn and understand myself
more.
