How I Met Your Mother ends with a pilot episode throwback

What about the PINEAPPLE?!?

Solid How I Met Your Mother fans will know and forever be haunted not only by this question but also with the seemingly cringe-worthy finale that aired March 31, Monday on CBS.

The nine-year-long sitcom signs off with the conclusion that the mother, finally named as Tracy McConell dies from an unknown sickness and that afterwards Ted will be pursuing Robin as in the show's pilot episode.

Weeks before the most awaited “meeting”, theories have surfaced from fans already mentioning the two shockers mentioned above. The show's creators Craig Tomas and Carter Bays have since kept the viewers on their toes as they dodge guesses about the sitcom's ending, saying the fans aren't 100% right about the theories. Neil Patrick Harris also came to the rescue saying, “fans won't be disappointed.”

But despite the encouragements mentioned, even Barney Stinson up there can't suit his way up into calming down the outrage loyal viewers are feeling after the season finale. Nine years of twists and turns, of countless nights with different women, of kisses and heartbreaks, only to have the Mother given a mere 2 minute meeting scene with Ted, only to have her die in the end and replaced by Aunt Robin. It is no surprise most reviews are labeling it as the worst series finale ever.

There might be mixed takes on the ending especially for Ted and Robin shippers. But for the majority of those who held their tissues Monday night (or in our case in the Philippines, Tuesday morning), it seems like killing off such a sought-after character and not even showcasing the “biggest moments” of the couple's lives does nothing to make the story of how He met Her legen-wait-for-it-dary.
